Client: Gunnison Valley Health
Format: Community event campaign and news feature
Published: June 2025
This project combined community health outreach, cross-organizational partnership and on-site event leadership to expand access to affordable preventive care in Crested Butte. I served as the lead planner and communications manager for Gunnison Valley Health’s annual low-cost blood draw event and authored the official post-event feature highlighting its impact.
Objective
Increase community participation in affordable preventive health screenings
Support public health access during a high-traffic summer period
Strengthen partnerships with local nonprofits and first responders
Reinforce organizational commitment to community wellness
Role and Responsibilities
I led the project from planning through execution, including:
Serving as lead event planner and on-site coordinator
Developing the event timeline, logistics and staffing plan
Recruiting, organizing and managing volunteers
Coordinating food and on-site needs for staff, volunteers and patients
Acting as primary liaison with community partners and community questions
Writing and editing the blog feature for publication via newsletter and social media
Partnerships
I managed collaboration with our key partners, It Starts With Me and the Crested Butte Firefighters. The event incorporated a donation component supporting firefighter training efforts, aligning community health access with local public safety support.
Distribution
The feature was published on the Gunnison Valley Health website and shared through the monthly newsletter and social media channels to extend reach and engagement.
Results
714 community members received low-cost blood screenings over the course of the three day event
Organizational leadership praised the event execution and communications strategy as we set record numbers for the Crested Butte Low-Cost Blood Draw
The campaign strengthened long-term relationships with community partners, builds community trust, health equity, access and health literacy for a rural community.
Why This Work Matters
This project demonstrates my ability to integrate strategic communications, event planning and community partnership management to deliver measurable public health impact while maintaining organizational standards and brand voice.
